Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church Food Pantry
In 1986 the Food Closet was opened and administered by Elders Jackie Wilkes and Johnsie Hemphill and the Men’s Organization of Mt. Olive. It started under the tenure of Rev. H. R. Shackelford. Elder Ernest Grier, Elder Jackie Wilkes. Elder Alex Thompson were the first caretakers of the pantry. There was a need in the community for food to be given to our neighbors. We would use the first Sunday in each month to receive food from our congregation to stock the pantry. A few years later, Elder Jerry Grier went to the session to get additional funds due to the increase awareness of neighbors in the community need to receive food.
We continue weekly to give families of need as one of the ministries of Mt. Olive. God continue blessing us to do HIS will.
